Dr. Salvatore "Sal" Raspa, a lifelong educator and dedicated resident of St. Mary's County, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at Green Acres Nursing Home in La Plata, surrounded by family.

Born on January 31, 1940, in New York City to Joseph Raspa and Angelina Alibrandi, Sal moved to Tennessee, where he met and married Myra Ennis in 1959. They shared 65 years together, raising six children: Sal Jr. (Debbie), Raymond Scott (John), Angela Lee, CDR Victor (Amanda), Capt. Anthony (Carolyn), and the late Joseph. He was a proud grandfather to Heather (Scott), Nicole (Blake), Allyssa (Jacob), Alex, and Elizabeth, and great-grandfather to Isaiah and Ady.

Sal dedicated 53 years to education in St. Mary's County, beginning as a science and math teacher at Great Mills High School before becoming principal and later serving in various administrative roles, including Assistant Superintendent. After retirement, he spent 12 years on the Board of Education, six as Chairman, always striving to enhance the local school system.

Beyond education, Sal was a skilled problem solver, business owner, and community leader. He ran several businesses, engaged in agricultural research with the University of Maryland, and actively participated in politics and civic organizations, including the Lions Club and Democratic Central Committee. He and Myra loved traveling, especially to Ecuador, the Galápagos Islands, and Iceland.

Recognized for his contributions, Sal received numerous honors, including a Congressional Record acknowledgment, a Governor’s Citation, and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for humanitarian service. His leadership and determination left a lasting impact on education and the community.
