Despite the challenges faced by the Lexington Park Lions Club in 2021-2022, including the departure of five members due to relocation and changing life circumstances, the club remains vibrant and dedicated to serving the community. Here are the highlights of the club’s contributions and achievements over the past year:
Face Masks Initiative: 1,500 face masks were sewn and donated to nursing homes, hospitals, Native American organizations, and other institutions.
Lexington Manor Disc Golf Course: The club installed 18 target baskets specially designed to be visible for those with vision impairments and provided six park benches to enhance the course.
Arts Park Sponsorship: Five artists were sponsored for the Lexington Manor "Arts Park" project. The club purchased benches and materials, offering incentive stipends to winning artists.
Holiday Giving: Christmas was provided for 21 children through generous donations and support.
Comfort Bags for Crisis Response: 100 "comfort bags" were split between the Calvert Crisis Response Team and St. Mary’s Child Advocacy Center to support individuals in need.
Vision and Hearing Assistance: Financial support was extended to 72 community members for eye exams and glasses, and to 20 individuals for hearing exams and aids.
Peace Poster Contest: A county-wide LCI Peace Poster contest saw participation from 36 students across five schools.
Scholarships: The club awarded scholarships to two graduating seniors from Great Mills High School.
Crab Festival Support: At the Lions Mobile Vision and Hearing Unit during the Crab Festival, balloons were distributed to attract attention and engage the public. Additionally, the club financially supported a donation of crabs to the St. Mary’s County Volunteer First Responders Appreciation Day.
Eyeglasses Recycling: Over 250 eyeglasses were collected for recycling.
Community Clean-Up Efforts: The club participated in Christmas in April and the Lexington Park Great Mills Road Community Clean-up Day to maintain and beautify the local area.
Veteran Support: Fresh produce was delivered to veterans in need through the Fields of Valor program, which aids veterans in crisis.
Customary Contributions: The club continued its tradition of contributing to key Lions charities including LCIF (Lions Clubs International Foundation), LVRF (Lions Vision Research Foundation), LCM (Lions Clubs of Maryland), and Leader Dog.
