The Lexington Park Lions Club Foundation is proud to announce the awarding of $1,000 scholarships to two exceptional graduates from St. Mary’s County: Julia Nilsson and Trenton Hoyt. Both students have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and a profound dedication to community service, embodying the values we strive to promote.

Julia Nilsson, Great Mills High School Graduate
Julia is a well-rounded scholar and leader. As a member of the National Honor Society, she has consistently displayed academic excellence. In 2022, she was honored as the Queen of Tolerance and recognized as a Distinguished Young Woman of Southern Maryland. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her planned humanitarian trip to Guatemala, Julia adapted by designing a virtual program to teach English to students at the Mi Especial Tesoro orphanage. She is also an accomplished vocalist, athlete, and an active member of her church. Julia has been accepted into the Aequitas Fellows Program in Urban Leadership and will be pursuing a degree in Communications with a minor in Spanish. She plans to make a positive impact in the field of Public Health.

Trenton Hoyt, Leonardtown High School Graduate
Trent has faced and overcome significant challenges, including the loss of sight in his right eye at an early age, with unwavering determination and commitment to both academics and service. He has served as a mentor through the SMCPS Big Buddy Program for elementary students and the Freshman Academy for incoming high school students. Trent is also a camp counselor with St. Mary’s Recreation and Parks Youth Summer Camp program and volunteers for the Southern Maryland Kings and Southern Maryland Heat AAU basketball programs. His leadership has been recognized through the Will Smith Leadership Award in 2019 and the Leonardtown High School Basketball Leadership Award in 2022. Trent will attend Salisbury University to study Occupational Therapy with a minor in Kinesiology, and he aspires to a career in Occupational Therapy.

We congratulate Julia and Trent on their remarkable achievements and wish them continued success as they pursue their academic and career goals. Their hard work, resilience, and dedication to community service serve as an inspiration to all.
